Vidya Balan Will Play A Punjabi Woman In ‘Ghanchakkar’
Vidya Balan who is riding high on the back to back success of ‘The Dirty Picture’ and ‘Kahaani’, will be seen essaying a role of a Punjabi woman in her upcoming film ‘Ghanchakkar‘.
The film is being directed by Raj Kumar Gupta who also directed ‘No One Killed Jessica’ starring Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherjee. It will also feature Emraan Hashmi as a lazy man wanting finer things in life and Vidya is playing his ambitious wife, with her notions about the world.
Talking about Vidya’s character in his film, Gupta says, “Her character will be completely different from what she has played so far.”
This is the first time when Vidya has teamed up with one of her directors for a second film. Gupta tells that Vidya was always her first choice for the role.
“While doing ‘No One Killed Jessica’, I explored a different side of Vidya. She was on my mind while I developed the script for ‘Ghanchakkar’. Thankfully, she agreed to do the role,” insists the director.
Although it was hard to convince Balan for the role, she got agreed in the end. “But our admiration for each other helped me make her understand how much I’m looking forward to her playing the character, which is why she finally agreed to do the film,” told Gupta.
The director is right now working on the portrayal of Vidya’s character. He said, “We are working on her look and mannerisms. It will take some time to get them to fit the image I’ve conceived.”
He also admitted that Emraan Hashmi will also have a different look in the film. “I don’t claim that this will break Emraan’s image, but it will show him in a different light for sure,” asserted Rajkumar.
‘Ghanchakkar’ is going on floors in September and will release by early 2013.
