Movie Review : ‘Heroine’
Director Madhur Bhandarkar’s film ‘Heroine‘ is a story of a Bollywood superstar actress Mahi Arora(Kareena Kapoor) and her downfall. Remember once again, it’s only about downfall.
Mahi is a Bollywood superstar who is at the top of her game. Being rich and famous, she possess the best of everything. However, her personal life is on the wrong side of the line, she is in love with already married superstar Aryan Khanna(Arjun Rampal).
The affair with the married superstar and her unpredictable nature start taking it’s toll on Mahi’s successful career. And here starts the real film. Although Mahi survives this career threatening hiccup and emerges a winner, little she knew that it was just the beginning.
Now, one after another thing starts hitting her career badly which becomes very hard to handle for Mahi. Whether Mahi will come out as a winner again or get lost in her fading stardom is what the rest of the film is about.
There were many media reports doing around of ‘Heroine’ being similar to ‘Fashion’ and ‘The Dirty Picture’. But to be relieved, the film has nothing to share with any of those two films. The film takes very different path and remains loyal to it.
Heroine’s screenplay is just outstanding. It grabs your attention from the very first point and doesn’t allow you to diverse it during two and half our screening. It’s full of entertaining, real and SENSATIONAL episodes from Bollywood. Some of them would be there in people’s mind, while others will surely be shocking material for the audience.
One of the film’s biggest plus point is it’s dialogues, they are hard hitting and will stay in your mind even after the film gets over.
Salim – Sulaiman’s music is also very good and it’s delightful to your ears. Songs are very well picturized. ‘Halkat Jawaani’ will take your breath away when you will watch it on the big screen. It’s even better than what you have seen in the promo.
Madhur Bhandarkar has done a fabulous job as a director. He has unveiled many untold and shocking truth about his own industry which is not everyone’s cup of a tea. Although the film gets a bit slower in it’s second half, knowing his actors’ caliber, Madhur has covered it with some amazing performances from his actors. He has succeeded in making ‘Heroine’ a different than usual rise, fall and again rise or death type of story.
But the biggest star of ‘Heroine’, is Kareena Kapoor who has given her career best performance in the film. With respect to Priyanka and Vidya, don’t try to compare Mahi’s character with Meghna Mathur of ‘Fashion’ or ‘Silk’ of ‘The Dirty Picture’, this one is far more complex character than any of them, and Kareena has done full justice to it. She has not just given a life to Mahi Arora, she has lived the character. Whether it’s the insecurities of Mahi or her search for true love, desperation or hypersensitivity, Kareena has portrayed every emotion with total conviction. The film will surely make her win all the best actress awards in 2013.
Arjun Rampal is fine in his act. He has played a superstar without any cliches of stereotyped characterizations. Randeep is effective in his small role. Shahana Goswami and Divya Dutta are also shine bright in their roles. Both of them have given some of the best scenes of the film with Kareena Kapoor. Ranveer Shorey and Sanjay Suri are natural in their act.
Overall, ‘Heroine’ is very entertaining and full of the shocking truths that you wouldn’t have heard or seen before. The film will surely be an eye opener for those young ones who aspire to be an actor/actress.
Our View : It’s a sensational film that you must watch this weekend.
